Marthas Vineyard Bed and Breakfast Wins SBA Award

VINEYARD BUSINESS WINS
PRESTIGIOUS SBA AWARD
Mansion House is recognized
for disaster recovery Boston, MA - The U.S. Small Business
Administration announced today that Sherman and Susan Goldstein,
owners of The Mansion House on Martha's Vineyard have been named the
national winner of this year's Phoenix Award for Small Business
Disaster Recovery.
The annual award is
presented to a small business owner that exemplifies resiliency and
perseverance in overcoming the unpredictable and debilitating
effects of a disaster. The Goldsteins are being recognized for their
remarkable recovery from a devastating fire that resulted in the
total destruction of their 32-room inn and resort. They will accept
their award as part of the SBA's National Small Business Week
celebration in Orlando, Fla. May 19-21.
"This award is symbolic of
the remarkable strength, courage and determination displayed by Mr.
and Mrs. Goldstein in rebuilding their business," said SBA Area
Director William E. Leggiero, Jr. "In the true spirit of the
Phoenix, the Goldsteins picked themselves up from the ashes to
rebuild a much-loved Martha's Vineyard landmark and anchor of the
Tisbury business district." In the early morning hours of December
19, 2001, a three alarm fire ripped through Vineyard Haven on the
island's northern shore. When the blaze was finally extinguished,
the Mansion House had been reduced to rubble. The inn has a long and
storied history dating to 1794 and the Goldsteins have operated the
business since 1985. A combination of public and private financing
sources, including an SBA economic injury disaster loan, helped fund
the reconstruction. On July 15, 2003, the Mansion House culminated a
$10 million rebuilding project by celebrating its grand re-opening.
